PittEnrich, one of the first programs developed in the Gismondi Neighborhood Education Program, uses Saturday learning-through-play sessions to help Homewood students in grades 1 through 5 improve their reading and math skills.
Offered at the Community Engagement Center (CEC) in Homewood, the program was co-developed with the principals of Pittsburgh Public Schools Lincoln and Faison, Homewood Children's Village, Homewood Community Sports, and School of Education and School of Social Work faculty.
Programming takes place on pre-scheduled Saturdays from September through April, with participants able to choose from either a morning session or an afternoon session.
PittEnrich in Action
On Saturdays, first- through fourth-graders are welcomed to the CEC in Homewood to participate in learning in a fast-paced, fun way.
In addition to reading and math, the program offers enrichment activities, projects, and games offered by an array of Pitt departments and community groups, including virtual reality experiences, arts and crafts, sports-themed games, robotics, and more.
Pitt students provide tutoring in more than 23 Homewood-serving elementary classrooms during the week.
