Grounded in the heart of the community.
Acting as a front door to Pitt, the Community Engagement Centers (CECs) offer a vibrant and welcoming space to foster collaboration and house services, programs, and staff dedicated to the neighborhood. Since 2017, our Neighborhood Commitments in Homewood, the Hill District, and now Greater Hazelwood have worked to center communities and residents in our work, building partnerships that align University of Pittsburgh resources and opportunities with community goals and wisdom.
In total, the CECs have offered more than 175 programs to help small businesses to grow, hire neighbors to work at Pitt, tutor and mentor young people, promote community arts, improve health and wellness, strengthen our civic involvement, and so much more.
This five-year retrospective celebrates this work, recognizing the community organizations and residents, and Pitt faculty, staff, and students who bring our CECs to life and ensure that our Neighborhood Commitments are collaborative, long term, and helping to improve people’s lives.
