Cross-Neighborhood Initiatives: In-School Tutoring

During the school day, Pitt School of Education students serve as tutors in select classrooms at Pittsburgh Public Schools elementary schools.

All tutoring happens under the direction of the classroom teacher and align to the reading and math curriculum used by the Pittsburgh Public School District. The school principals select the classrooms that receive tutoring assistance.

About our Tutors

Gismondi Neighborhood Education Program tutors are college students, many of whom are preparing for careers as teachers and social service providers, who all love elementary-aged children and care about our communities.

All Gismondi Neighborhood Education Program tutors are trained in cutting-edge reading and math techniques and play-based interventions.

All tutors have the necessary child abuse history and criminal background check clearances.
