The CHURCH Project

Churches have been increasingly recognized as an ideal platform to implement programs designed to promote the mental, material, physical, and spiritual wellness of African Americans. The Congregations as Healers Uniting to Restore Community Health (CHURCH) project launched as a Community-Partnered Participatory Research (CPPR) project between Social Work, Homewood Community Ministries, and the Department of Psychiatry. The CHURCH project developed and evaluated a mental health intervention that combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Scripture, and sacred church music to meet the mental health needs of African American churchgoers in participating Homewood churches.  The CHURCH Project is funded in part by RISE-Mental Health.
